Stewart C. Zabriskie
Used successfully in Episcopal dioceses and congregations, Total Ministry describes a new way for local congregations (especially small ones) and judicatories to organize their response to God’s call and to provide resources, support, and encouragement for ministry—a way that is not dependent only on full-time, seminary-trained, ordained leaders.
“Wow! What a wonderful gift Stewart Zabriskie has given us in this book, which is, in fact, a personal journey. In its pages, he frees 'Total Ministry' from being mere buzz works. He plunges the reader into experiences of Christian community that honor each person as a conduit of God's revelation. He emphasizes that vital and healthy church life depends not on size or order, but on recognizing the Spirit of God in one another and doing what Jesus taught us to do. For me, the book holds seeds of transformation not only for the church but for any community that contents with inappropriate hierarchy and misplaced authority.” —The Rt. Rev. Rustin R. Kimsey
“It is a fresh and bold look at how to affirm and encourage congregations to take seriously local gifts and call people from their flock for public ministry.” —Rev. Bruce Lundberg
“By providing theoretical, practical, testimonial, and biographical glimpses into the organism that is the Church in Nevada, Zabriskie demonstrates how communities are rediscovering and affirming one another's gifts, and expressing them in diverse and shared ministries.” —Georgia S. Dudding, Ph.D.
With his election as bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Nevada in 1986, Stewart Zabriskie became part of the Total Ministry development initiated by his predecessor, The Rt. Rev. Wesley Frensdorff. In his thirty-two years of ordained ministry, Zabriskie has served parishes in New York and Minnesota. He is a graduate of Yale University and the General Theological Seminary in New York City.
