Loren B. Mead
“Mead begins by summarizing recent research on American religion in his usual accessible way. The news is bad indeed—what you've heard about and things that haven't even crossed your mind until now. The rest of the book is his call to hope and transformation. It is dotted throughout with gems of practical wisdom. A genuinely helpful book.” —Nancy T. Ammerman
“Loren Mead sees a 'serious storm . . . buffeting the churches. The storm is so serious . . . that it marks the end of 'business as usual' . . .and marks a need for us to begin again building church from the gound up.' This dire analysis supported by irrefutable soft and hard data is the backdrop against which the author calls congregations to transformation by preparing disciples and apostles through the systematic embrace of four essential, traditional functions; namely, Koinoia, Kerygma, Didache, and Diakonia. His diagnosis is telling and his prescription the substance in which transformation is underway already in countless congregations. The format of the book lends itself to serious congregational study and an intentional seizing of the reins of God's hopeful future for renewed and faithful congregations.” —The Reverend C. Joseph Sprague
