Active Spirituality: A Guide for Seekers and Ministers

Kent Ira Groff

Active Spirituality is a practical guidebook for the inquiring layperson seeking a holistic, intelligent look at the spiritual life, and for the pastor or religious professional seeking a systematic framework and spiritual practices to re-ignite the flame of faith. Groff explains what it means to believe and what to do after you say you believe through a unique integration of spirituality and service, heart and mind, and various faith traditions. Explore five spiritual disciplines: community, solitude, learning, service, and vocation.

This book is great for study groups; each chapter includes "prayer excercises."

Praise for the Book

“Kent Groff has given us a fruitful harvest of many years of pastoral practice, spiritual direction, reading, prayer, and life's experience. Few books on the spiritual life blend the actual practice of spirituality so that the book has the advantages of a workbook with rich guidance and valuable information. I especially like the stress on spirituality for and in ministry to congregations so that the spirituality envisioned is not a private, individualistic matter."
Diogenes Allen, Stuart Professor of Philosophy at Princeton Theological Seminary

“Ken Groff's book is a refreshing and reassuring outpost for weary pilgrims on the spiritual journey. His creative use of paradox (we are always traveling to return home), his respect for all religious traditions, and his genuine love for those who are sometimes numb in the faith shine through his readable words and practical suggestions to come aside and rest awhile with God. I recommend this book for all pilgrims but especially for those in ministry who occasionally wonder how they can continue to give what they temporarily lose—a vibrant and joyful spirit in the Lord.” —Dolores Curran, Family Life Educator and Author of Traits of a Healthy Family

“The critical question now facing human beings is, 'What does it mean to be religious? What does it mean to say, I believe?' Kent Groff is a dependable guide who has brilliantly illuminated a path of belief, prayer, and the discipline of service. He shows his readers how to rediscover the old truth, that to pray is to live.” —Ross Mackenzie, Director of the Department of Religion, Chautaugua Institution, Chautaugua, New York
