Connecting to God: Nurturing Spirituality through Small Groups

Corinne Ware

Although spiritual growth occurs within an individual, Ware explains that it is the calling of the congregation to be a community of support and encouragement. Indeed, it is amidst the support of a group that an individual learns how to live out personal faith. Ware provides a very practical and accessible model of spiritual formation for self-directing groups that can be led by clergy or laity. Includes thorough guidelines, do’s and don’ts, and ground rules for the successful pursuit of spiritual growth in small groups. See also Ware’s helpful book on spiritual type on next page.

Praise for the Book

“Corinne Ware has helped me address the most constant and consistant issue of my adult life—how to connect to God.” —From the Foreword, Ezra Earl Jones

“Corinne Ware's book, Connecting to God: Nurturing Spirituality through Small Groups, is an important guide for lay persons who desire to explore and experience a more reflective and spiritual life. In this book Dr. Ware has put together a way for one to explore with others what it is to be prayerful. It provides a way to understand soulfulness and to learn about the Christian spiritual tradition. This guide will be very useful for groups formed in churches and counseling centers which gather to grow. It will also help those who are looking to understand prayer and create a time for their own meditation.” —Gary C. Augustin, Ph.D.

“In Connecting to God: Nurturing Spirituality through Small Groups, Corinne Ware has given the Church a wonderful and needed gift. Few of us can join the theoretical with the practical, but she has done it. Those who pursue a disciplined spiritual life now have a book that will be immensely helpful. Pastors who struggle with how to take their congregation to a new level of spiritual maturity have a needed resource.” —The Rt. Rev. John Clark Buchanan
