Finishing Strong, Ending Well - Crafting the Culminating Chapter of Your Ministry

October  5, 2010 – October  7, 2010
Lake Junaluska Conference & Retreat Center , Lake Junaluska, North Carolina

Facilitator: Larry Peers

Event begins at noon with lunch on the first day and ends after lunch on the last day.

The final five to seven years of your career are about more than just "preparing for retirement".  They are a time for crafting the culminating chapter of your lifetime of ministry.

  • With planning, these immediate years before retirement can be the most productive and creative years of your vocational life

  • And they can be an opportunity for both you and your congregation to prepare for what's next.

However, increasing evidence, as chronicled in these two stories from NPR and The New York Times, demonstrates the challenges of staying healthy and vital throughout one's ministry.

This seminar shows you how to intentionally go about FINISHING STRONG, ENDING WELL, celebrating your rich reservoir of accumulated wisdom.

Take three days for yourself in this stunning setting at Lake Junaluska, NC, in the quiet of early autumn to discover with the assistance of Alban Senior Consultant Larry Peers:

  • What we know about this developmental stage of life and its implications for ministry.

  • Which patterns of ministry may need to be re-examined and re-negotiated.

  • How to map the “legacy-leaving” issues for your congregation.

  • Ways to re-envision your role and identity during this time of ministry.

  • Strategies for revisiting your initial call as a way of naming regrets and hopes.

  • Practices for preparing for the next stage of life after retirement from a ministry setting.

Now is the time to claim the personal and spiritual resources you need in order to remain vital and creative.  "Finishing Strong, Ending Well" will help you not just to communicate a legacy for the future, but also to attend to your soul’s needs during this crucial phase of life and ministry.

Your congregation and your family and friends will all benefit from your preparing for this time in a deliberately thoughtful and meaningful way. Take advantage of this opportunity to finish strong and begin to move toward the "third age" of your life.
