STARTING A NONPROFIT AT YOUR CHURCH
Many congregations form separate 501(c)3 nonprofits to draw new funding, new people and new partners into ministry work. Incorporating your day care, school, or youth center (for example) as a separate nonprofit may be a model to consider as you look at ways to move your ministry vision forward. In this session you will learn about:
+ How to assess the risks and advantages of the model
+ How to decide whether it's right for your church
+ The dynamic of control-and-autonomy between church and nonprofit
+ Options for structuring the Board of Directors
+ A brief review of the legal process for establishing a 501(c)3
+ Strategies for maintaining a positive church-nonprofit relationship
IDEAL LEARNERS: Pastors, staff, or Board members and volunteers from congregations considering establishing a separate nonprofit or 'restarting' an existing one.
