Alban Research

Alban research is our intentional work that captures and uses the knowledge that flows through congregations. It’s what we’ve learned through our years of consulting for congregations. It’s the work of our authors. It’s what we do as we engage the participants at our education events and focus groups. It’s what we discover by observing faith communities and the wider religious landscape. It’s our way of asking the right questions. Alban’s focus on learning connects us to a network of talent and keeps us current with issues of interest to congregational leaders.

Beginning in 1998, Alban became fully engaged in a vigorous and rapidly responsive effort to provide research on the many challenging issues facing the religious community today.

This exciting new research agenda is continuously increasing the flow of information available to our constituency by:

  • identifying the most urgent questions facing congregations and quickly mobilizing resources to learn how to respond;
  • involving clergy and lay leadership in the formation of the Institute’s research projects and in collaborative inquiry through seminars and scholarships; and
  • creating Alban’s Congregational Resource Guide, a comprehensive and easily accessible Web-enabled database on current thinking, past work, best resources, best practices, and leading trends.

During the coming years, the work of Alban research will foster the continued relevance and growth of our education events and published writings through our ability to search out and disseminate solutions for congregations and bring a consulting focus to the religious community.
